A 192-Module Split Flap Display Suspended Inside Unique Photo’s Flagship Store

In December 2024, Unique Photo selected TS Display to produce a large split flap display for its flagship store in Fairfield, New Jersey, USA.

The installation is located inside Unique Photo’s 50,000-square-foot Fairfield flagship store, a major photography retail destination featuring an extensive showroom, professional photography equipment and educational facilities.

Suspended above the retail showroom floor, the display features 192 split flap modules arranged in an 8 × 24 layout, measuring 120 × 240 cm. Its ceiling-mounted design creates a striking mechanical centerpiece while keeping the retail space below completely open.

Powered by TS Display’s control software, the display can present promotional messages, store announcements, event information, product highlights and other dynamic content.

A Mechanical Message Board for a Modern Retail Space

With 24 characters across each row, the large-format split flap board provides plenty of space for announcements, promotions and other changing messages.

Unlike a conventional digital screen, each message change is created by the physical movement of the mechanical flaps. The combination of motion, sound and customized content makes the display both a communication tool and a distinctive feature within the retail environment.

Local Frame Assembly and Installation

After the split flap modules arrived in New Jersey, the supporting steel structure was fabricated locally in the United States.

The 192 modules were installed into the custom frame and tested on site before the complete display was lifted into its final ceiling-mounted position.

This modular installation method allowed the large display to be integrated smoothly into the existing commercial space.

Factory Testing Before Shipment

Before shipping to the United States, the complete 192-module split flap display was assembled and tested at the TS Display factory.

Testing included module operation, message changes, customized flap content and overall display performance before shipment.

The Final Result

The finished split flap display is now suspended high above the retail floor, making it visible from across the space while keeping the area below completely open.

Unique Photo can change the content whenever needed, using the same mechanical display for promotional campaigns, announcements, events and product-related messages.

From factory production and testing to local frame assembly and final installation in New Jersey, the project was completed successfully — another TS Display split flap installation in the United States.
